Solar Impulse 2 starts its flight: Solar Impulse 2, the first attempt at a solar-powered round-the-world flight, has completed the first leg successfully and landed at Muscat International Airport in Oman.
Swiss engineer Andre Borschberg was at the controls of the single-seater plane for the Abu Dhabi-to-Oman flight, which began at about 7:12 a.m. local time and ended 13 hours later. In the next leg of the journey, the plane will head towards India.
Solar Impulse is claimed to be the first aircraft to fly day and night without a drop of fuel, propelled solely by the sun's energy, as per the project's website.
